- Do not grind or mix the sugar and potassium chlorate.
- Potassium chlorate is a strong oxidizer.

- 1g ground sucrose
- 3g Potassium chlorate
- Conc. H₂SO₄
Materials
- One Crucible
- One eyedropper
Procedure
- Place a mixture of 1 gm sucrose and 3 gms potassium chlorate in the crucible.
- Add one drop of sulfuric acid to the mixture. (The reaction starts immediately with smoke and it will then burst into purple white flames.)
