Rose Petal Indicator

Hazards

  • HCl is corrosive and toxic.
  • Methanol is flammable.

Chemicals and Solutions

  • methanol 100 ml
  • ammonium hydroxide 1M
  • HCl conc. in dropper bottle

Materials

  • Mortar and pestle
  • 250 ml beaker
  • magnetic stirrer
  • buret stand and buret
  • rose petals

Procedure

Mix methanol and rose petals in the mortar. Add 2-3 drops HCl, stir, and decant the liquid into a beaker. Place the beaker on the magnetic stirrer and titrate with the ammonium hydroxide.
