Submitted by Mary Harty on

The Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry are pleased to announce that our annual Graduation and Awards Recognition Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

Graduating students who wish to participate in the ceremony must RSVP online by May 31, 2019. Tickets are not required to attend this event.

Parking: Students and guests will need to arrange for their own transportation and parking.Pre-Purchase of Campus Parking permits can be obtained through the Commencement website Registration/Order Form. Day of Parking Permits are purchased at the parking gates. Those needing disability parking may pre-purchase a disability parking permit through the Commencement website Registration/Order Form. (Parking Lot E17 is the closest to Alaska Arena.) On the day of the event, present the permit to the attendant and they will direct you to the closest available spot to the event.

Disability Accommodations: To request disability accommodation, contact the UW Disability Services Office at 206.543.6450 (voice), 206.543.6452 (TTY), 206.685.7264 (fax), or dso@uw.edu. The University of Washington makes every effort to honor disability accommodation requests. Requests can be responded to most effectively if received as far in advance of the event as possible, preferably at least 10 days.  The Hec Edmundson Pavilion is accessible and includes seating areas for persons using wheelchairs. Hec Edmundson Pavilion staff will be available to assist guests who need special assistance or accommodations.

Student speakers: Two graduating students will be selected to present “commencement” speeches at our celebration. We plan to select one biochemistry major and one chemistry major to each give a brief (~5 minute) commencement speech. If you are interested in being one of the speakers, please email a one-page abstract of your planned speech to advisers@chem.washington.edu by Friday, April 19, 2019. The abstracts will be reviewed by a committee, and a subgroup of students will be invited to present their speeches to the committee. Students will be notified of the committee’s decision by mid-May.

Attire: Students are encouraged to wear cap & gown but it is not required.

Please send any questions to advisers@chem.washington.edu.

Congratulations Graduates!
