Entrance into the Chemistry and Biochemistry majors is by competitive admission. 

Applications are due by 4:00 pm on the second Friday of October and April.

Casey Renneberg and Tim Bradford are the advisers for undergraduate Chemistry and Biochemistry majors. They are available to help with academic and career planning and answer questions and concerns of undergraduates, alumni, and prospective undergraduate students.

Advising hours are 9:00-12:00 pm and 1:00-4:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and on Thursday 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.  No appointment is necessary. Please feel free to drop by!

Remote Advising

Tim is now available for drop-in advising via Zoom from 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and on Thursday 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. When you join the meeting, you will initially be placed into a waiting room in order to keep each meeting private.

Do you know an outstanding TA?

Nominate them for an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award sponsored by the Department of Chemistry. To nominate your TA, send an email to by the first Monday of June (annually) with the following:

  • TA's name (first/preferred name and last/family name)
  • Class served: CHEM XXX
  • Quarter and year the class took place (e.g., Autumn 2020, Winter 2021, Spring 2021)
  • Your testimony describing why the Selection Committee should consider your TA for this award
