Graduation Information

When should I apply for graduation?

It is recommended that you apply to graduate at least two quarters in advance of your planned graduation date. The University of Washington has a special registration category, Graduating Senior Priority (GSP), which allows seniors whose graduation applications are already on file to register on the first day of the registration period for two quarters.

The latest that students can apply to graduate for a specific quarter is the third Friday of the quarter in which they plan to graduate.

Department Graduation and Awards Recognition Celebration

The Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry are pleased to announce that our annual Graduation and Awards Recognition Celebration will be held on  Thursday, June 6th, 2024.

RSVP: Information about RSVP will be provided.

Student Speakers: Two undergraduate students will be selected to present "commencement" speeches at our celebration. We plan to select one biochemistry major and one chemistry major to each give a brief (~5 minute) commencement speech. If you are interested in being one of the speakers, please write a draft of your planned speech and submit it here by Friday, April 19, 2024. Abstracts will be reviewed by a committee, and a subgroup of students will be invited to present their speeches to the committee. Students will be notified of the committee's decision by mid-May.

Guests & Tickets: Tickets are not required to attend this event. Any graduating students who would like to participate in the ceremony must RSVP

Parking: Students and guests will need to arrange for their own transportation and parking; please see the UW Transportation Services website for more information. Campus parking permits may be purchased in advance via the Commencement website's parking permit Registration/Order Form; daily parking permits are purchased at the parking gatehouse. Those in need of disability parking may pre-purchase a disability parking permit via the Commencement website (E17 is the parking lot closest to Alaska Airlines Arena). On the day of the event, present the parking permit to the attendant, who will direct you to the closest available parking spot. Be sure to leave the parking permit face up on your dashboard.

Disability Accommodations: To request disability accommodation, contact the UW Disability Services Office at 206.543.6450 (voice), 206.543.6452 (TTY), 206.685.7264 (fax), or dso@uw.edu. The University of Washington makes every effort to honor disability accommodation requests. Requests can be responded to most effectively if received as far in advance of the event as possible, preferably at least 10 days. Hec Edmundson Pavilion is an accessible facility with seating areas for persons using wheelchairs. Hec Edmundson Pavilion staff will be available to help guests who need special assistance or accommodations.

Attire: Students are encouraged to wear cap & gown but it is not required.

Questions: Please send any questions to chemadv@uw.edu.

Congratulations Graduates!
