Admission Pathways and Requirements
Entrance Pathway | Description |
Direct | This pathway is intended for first-year students entering the UW. Students with a year of high-school chemistry interested in pursuing a degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry can indicate their interest in being admitted to our degree programs during the admission process. Prerequisites for: BA Chemistry, BS Chemistry, BA Biochemistry, BS Biochemistry |
Research/Honors | This pathway is for two types of students. First, students that have completed the first two quarters of the honors introductory chemistry sequence can apply through this pathway. Second, students that have at least 6 credits of research experience can also apply through this pathway. “Research” students should submit a letter of recommendation from the faculty member they have performed research with in their application package. Prerequisites for: BA Chemistry, BS Chemistry, BA Biochemistry, BS Biochemistry |
Early | This pathway is for students that have completed the pre-requisite coursework consistent with first-year instruction in Chemistry, Math, Physics, and/or Biology. All interested students can apply for this track, and it is not limited to first-year students. The average GPA for students admitted through this pathway is higher than for the general track reflecting the limited amount of pre-requisite coursework required. Prerequisites for: BA Chemistry, BS Chemistry, BA Biochemistry, BS Biochemistry |
Regular | This pathway is for students that have completed the pre-requisite coursework that involves first- and second-year coursework in Chemistry in addition to first-year coursework in Math, Physics, and/or Biology. The GPA for students admitted through this pathway is generally lower than that for the first-year pathway since more pre-requisite coursework is required. Prerequisites for: BA Chemistry, BS Chemistry, BA Biochemistry, BS Biochemistry |
