Summary
Calcium chloride (exothermic) and ammonium chloride (endothermic) are added to water. The temperature change of the solution is measured and displayed using a large digital thermometer. The demonstration can be done either qualitatively or quantitatively. Other salts can be used in place of those listed.
Chemicals and Solutions
- Calcium chloride 10 g (record weight used)
- Ammonium Chloride 10g (record weight used)
Materials
- Digital display and temperature probe
- Two 250mL beakers
Procedure
Dissolve each salt in 100 mL water and show the temperature change
