Congratulations to Karen Zhang for being awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship!
The Goldwater Scholarship Program supports undergraduates who “show exceptional promise of becoming this nation’s next generation of research leaders” in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Karen is a junior studying biochemistry and microbiology. She is currently an undergraduate researcher in the Molecular Information Systems Lab (MISL) at UW, where she uses “nanopore sensing technology to read out information for engineered biology systems.” Karen is excited about studying “the machineries of life at a molecular level and engineering them to perform novel tasks,” and she plans to pursue a PhD in synthetic biology or bioinformatics post-graduation.
