Gojko Lalic promoted to Professor

Submitted by Kimberly Quigley on

The Department of Chemistry congratulates Associate Professor Gojko Lalic on his promotion to professor, effective September 16, 2020.

An organic chemist specializing in reaction development, Professor Lalic is interested in developing new transformations for the synthesis of organic molecules using transition metal catalysis. An essential part of the Lalic group’s approach to reaction development is the exploration of reaction mechanisms, which results in a deeper understanding of the fundamental reactivity of organic and organometallic compounds, while informing the design of new reactions and the discovery of better catalysts for existing reactions. The Lalic group has leveraged these mechanism-based approaches to develop efficient hydrofunctionalization and related reactions. Their breakthroughs include new hydroalkylation methods for synthesis of alkenes, a preparation of highly hindered amines that were previously unavailable, and a novel defluorination reaction with potential applications in the preparation of novel drugs and other biologically active molecules.
