AP Score Exemptions
The UW Department of Chemistry's policy on AP credit is as follows:
Exam | Score | Credit Awarded |
AP Chem | 5 | Chem 142, 152, 162 (15 total credits) |
AP Chem | 4 | Chem 142, 152 (10 total credits) |
AP Chem | 3 | Chem 142 (5 credits) |
Those students with AP scores of 3, 4, or 5 who plan to major in chemistry or biochemistry are strongly encouraged to discuss the option of enrolling in the honors general chemistry sequence, CHEM 145,155 and 165, with the undergraduate chemistry/biochemistry advisors in 303 Bagley Hall.
No credit will be given for AP scores of 2 or lower.
IB Score Exemptions
Starting Autumn quarter 2019, UW Chemistry will award credit for Chemistry IB Scores as follows:
Level: HL or SL | Score | Credit Awarded |
HL | 7 | Chem 142, 152, 162 (15 total credits) |
HL | 6 | Chem 142, 152 (10 total credits) |
HL | 5, 4 | Chem 142 (5 credits) |
SL | 7, 6, 5, 4 | Chem 110 (3 credits) |
Those students with IB scores of 5, 6 or 7 who plan to major in chemistry or biochemistry are strongly encouraged to discuss the option of enrolling in the honors general chemistry sequence, CHEM 145,155 and 165, with the undergraduate chemistry/biochemistry advisers in 303 Bagley Hall.
