UW alumnus Professor Isiah M. Warner was interviewed about the importance of mentorship for C&EN by Devin Swiner, a cofounder of the #BlackinChem movement and PhD candidate at the Ohio State University. This interview was part of C&EN’s Trailblazers issue which celebrates Black chemists and chemical engineers.

Warner is the vice president for strategic initiatives, Boyd Professor and Philip W. West Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute professor at Louisiana State University. He earned the PhD from the University of Washington in 1977 for his work on “Video Fluorometry: A Novel Approach to the Acquisition and Interpretation of Multi-Component Fluorescence Data” with Professors James Callis and Gary Christian.
