Facilities & Research Policy: First Aid and Safety Training

First Aid and Safety Training are required for Department of Chemistry faculty, staff, and students. The requirement is based on compliance with UW Administrative Policy Statement 10.5: First Aid Training and Certification Requirements (http://www.washington.edu/admin/rules/policies/APS/10.05.html).

The following First Aid and Safety training classes are REQUIRED by the Department of Chemistry. Failure to complete will result in confiscation of lab keys and removal of key card access until the classes have been taken.

Faculty:

  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Asbestos General Awareness
  • Compressed Gas Safety
  • Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Fume Hood Training
  • GHS-Globally Harmonized System (HazCom)
  • Managing Laboratory Chemicals
  • Floor Warden/Building Evacuation Training
  • Lab Safety Standard Compliance

Staff:

  • First Aid and CPR Certification (Supervisors only)
  • Floor Warden/Building Evacuation Training
  • Asbestos General Awareness

Students and Researchers (regardless of title):

  • Asbestos General Awareness
  • Compressed Gas Safety
  • Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Fume Hood Training
  • GHS-Globally Harmonized System (HazCom)
  • Managing Laboratory Chemicals

In cases of repeated chemical spills and/or other laboratory safety hazards, researchers may be required to re-take Managing Laboratory Chemicals and Spill Clean-up and/or other classes as deemed necessary by the Department of Chemistry Health & Safety Officer.
